Reading for pleasure strategies

RIVERVIEW LIBRARY BUS

Each class visits our library bus once a week and selects a book to take home and read for pleasure.

READING RAFFLE TICKETS

Reading is key at Riverview. To promote children’s enjoyment for reading the children earn raffle tickets. They can earn tickets for many reasons including enjoying reading on the Library Bus, sharing a book with others, taking part in Accelerated Reader and for reading at home.
When the children win a raffle tickets, they choose which book they would like the opportunity to win from a choice of age appropriate texts.  Each half-term, the winners are announced in Celebration Assembly, and they are awarded with their new book.

RIVERVIEW MYSTERY READER

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have a mystery reader every week.  They share their favourite story with the children and the children love listening to a different storyteller each week!

RIVERVIEW BOOK CLUB

In Key Stage 2, children have the opportunity to take part in a book club. Each term a text is chosen which the children read for enjoyment. At the end of the term children in the book club come together over squash and biscuits to discuss their thoughts on the book.
